Routine antenatal care is now covered by the community midwives who are attached to our practice. Our GPs are still available for any problems arising during pregnancy and will therefore be informed by the midwife if such problems arise. The community midwife works as the lead professional and educator to women and their families in all aspects of midwifery care. Women should refer themselves directly to the midwife where they will be given appropriate information on health and wellbeing. This will enable them to make informed choices about their care during pregnancy and delivery. She will then refer the patient to the hospital of her choice. All postnatal care will be individualised and tailored to meet the needs of the women and their families.

These clinics are run by our doctors for child development checks for babies between six and eight weeks. You can arange an appointment by calling the practice. 

Every Monday between 9.30 am and 12.10 am - by appointment only.

This clinic is run by our Childhood Immunisation Team: From the age of two months, all children should commence primary immunisations.

Please try to remember to bring the baby’s red book to the appointment. Only for a record for yourself, it’s handy to know when certain immunisations were given for nursery/school in the future.

Parents should register their baby as soon as possible and make an appointment for the 6 week check with a GP and their 8 week immunisations. Please ask for information at reception.

Young People - a special message for teenagers: If you are interested or worried about contraception, emergency contraception, pregnancy concerns or sexually transmitted diseases, please make a confidential appointment with our practice nurse, community pharmacy or Sexual Health who can offer appropriate advice.

Asthma, COPD, hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes, stroke.

If you suffer from any of the above conditions, you can arrange an appointment with our practice nurse who can offer support and advice on management and lifestyle. For further information, please contact reception.

Although our patients may still attend our practice for their cervical smear tests, please note that the recall and results are handled by Scottish Cervical Cytology Recall System. The main objective of this national programme is to ensure delivery of the same cervical screening service to all women in Scotland irrespective of their location. If you require further information please contact the practice nurses.

Contraceptive care is provided by the Practice Nurse during surgery hours. For insertion of Intra-uterine contraception devices (the coil) please contact the Sexual Health Clinic at Ayrshire Central Hospital. For removal of your contraceptive device, please contact the practice nurse.

One of our doctors will carry out minor surgical procedures by appointment. Joint injections and other procedures can be done by any of the GPs. Please ask at reception.

The doctors are happy to carry out medicals eg for insurance and driving licence, by appointment. Please telephone the surgery for an appointment and ask at reception for the charges for these services.

Advice on appropriate measures to be taken prior to and during foreign travel including immunisations and malarial prophylaxis can be given by the practice. This advice is usually given by the practice nurse. It would be helpful if patients could initially consult some two months or so prior to their journey.

Suspension of Travel Health Websites in Scotland

Updates to the travel health websites: TRAVAX (www.travax.nhs.uk) and Fit for Travel (www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk) will be paused as of tomorrow, Thursday 10th July 2025.
This is an operational decision, and we have not taken this lightly. However, due to capacity, regular review of all the content of the websites is no longer happening. Therefore, we are advising users to access the freely available NaTHNaC website Travel Health Pro (www.travelhealthpro.org.uk ) as of tomorrow until further notice.

We are in the process of updating our websites to direct users to this alternative, whilst working directly with NaTHNaC to ensure relevant Scotland context is included on their pages.
In addition, we will be contacting all users of TRAVAX to make them aware of the current situation and developments.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you, but we plan to provide you with regular update on future developments on this matter.

Patients who wish to stop smoking can self-refer to our Quit Your Way Service or local pharmacists for advice and support.

Our practice promotes a free (smoking and prevention service) which is available to patients in Ayrshire. This service is called Quit Your Way and offers:

• One-to-one support
• Group support
• Information and advice
• Access to treatments, including nicotine replacement therapy (NRT)

Patients on Warfarin who have difficulty attending the hospital anti-coagulant clinic can have their anti-coagulant monitoring supervised by the practice.

Patients on disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs can have the necessary blood and urine checks carried out by the practice.

Our Income Advisor is in the Practice all day on a Monday. Patients can self-refer into this service. The Income Advisor provides free, impartial and confidential advice. The Income Advisor can ensure you are receiving the state benefits you are entitled to.

Our Mental Health Practitioner is available every Monday and Wednesday. She offers a variety of telephone and face to face appointments. Patients can self refer to this service. The Mental Health Practitioner can assist with all mental health issues, ADHD assessments, autism assessments.

Our Community Link Worker is available every Tuesday and offers a variety of telephone and face to face appointments. Patients can self-refer to this service. The Community Link Worker can help with low level anxiety, work related stress, bereavement, support for Carers, social isolation.

Andrew Melvin, Senior Pharmacist, carries out a Menopause Clinic fortnightly on a Tuesday afternoon. Andrew can see new and review patients and patients can self-refer to this service.
